Project Overview
This project investigates how Microsoft Teams' Reflect and Insights tools can be leveraged to support student emotional wellbeing, engagement tracking, and digital collaboration in a secondary school context. Using structured synthetic data, I modelled realistic analytics across 100 participants (students, teachers, coordinators) to evaluate trends in emotional check-ins, engagement levels, and collaboration patterns.
Key Outcomes:
Identified strong links between emotional check-ins and student engagement
Highlighted role-based digital behaviours and support needs
Developed actionable recommendations for improving digital maturity in schools
Ethical, data-driven approach using Excel and AI generative tools
Purpose:
To demonstrate how schools can leverage embedded analytics tools not only for performance tracking, but also for wellbeing-first decision making.
Data simulation of 100 participants (Students, Teachers, Coordinators)
Metrics included: Weekly Reflect usage, average wellbeing score, engagement %,
collaboration instances
Analytical tools: Descriptive statistics, outlier identification, and persona comparison
Synthetic analytics framework inspired by real-world use in NSW Showcase Schools
Tools Used
Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams Reflect & Insights, ChatGPT, Bing AI
Average wellbeing score: 7.14/10
Teachers showed the highest Reflect use and collaboration levels
Students with no Reflect usage had the lowest engagement (<50%)
Patterns suggest increased check-ins correlate with better engagement and collaboration
Identified need for staff training and boundary-setting around digital load
Embed Reflect use into weekly school routines
Offer data literacy training to teachers and coordinators
Use Insights dashboards to track early signs of disengagement
Introduce wellbeing-led alerts for at-risk students
Design policies balancing emotional tracking with student agency
This report aligns with the Australian Curriculum V9.0 and supports strategic goals around digital wellbeing, collaborative practice, and student support interventions. It serves as a foundation for future pilot implementation and leadership discussions.
